My Daily Habit For a Better Day and a Better Life

I first started my health journey about 2.5 years ago with no knowledge of anything health or fitness related. Although the first year of my journey may not have been the most grueling and intense time of my workout career so far since I had not yet begun to push limits.

Although that time did leave me with a beautiful gift, daily morning walks. Going for a walk in the morning is something I have been doing consistently regardless of the weather for a couple years. It’s nothing crazy, just a 30-45 minute walk around my neighborhood. 

But with these walks there’s one important detail I need to add that gave me the largest benefit, and that was not listening to music or having any form of distractions from my thoughts. Not having any mental distractions while alone on a walk allows me to spend quality time in my own head which has led to me having fantastic ideas that put me on a new journey, including starting this blog page. I’m sure a lot of you are able to think about problems and solutions a lot better when you’re in the shower opposed to when you’re in front of your desk, this is caused by relaxation releasing dopamine into the brain putting you into an “Alpha” brainwave state giving you those “aha!” moments. This same feeling I receive every morning on my undistracted walks, which also compounds with the shower I take later in the day to give myself ample time daily to work from the inside.

These thought sessions have also really helped me figure out what it is I truly want, and don’t want in my life. Any time I cut something negative from my life whether that be, excessive social media use, prolonged video game sessions, Netflix, bad foods etc. they all got cut after coming back home from a walk because I gave myself the time to consider the positives and negatives of cutting or adding a new habit.

Another great side effect of the walks is it greatly improves my mood for the remainder of that day. On day’s I don’t go for my walk in the morning are the same days I usually scramble throughout my day and I believe it’s because the walks allow me to identify my main goals and how to properly distribute my energy for that day.

And the best part of all ITS AMAZING FOR BEGINNERS! If you feel intimidated by the fitness scene or may feel nervous to go to the gym, then morning walks are going to be an amazing place to start, while also giving yourself the time to work in your mind and figure out your next steps to bettering yourself!

Next week schedule yourself a few days to take undistracted walks and bring a notebook/pen and note down your ideas and realizations. I hope this article can help implement this amazing daily habit into your life, and in turn bring you better, happier days!
