A Major Key To Success In Any Goal

When working towards a goal no matter what that goal is, how large or small, there is one huge key to the success of that goal that I have learned and today I would love to share this with you. This is something called the Don’t Break The Chain method or the Seinfeld method coined after comedian Jerry Seinfeld. What the Seinfeld method entails is making sure you work towards your goal each day no matter how productive it may be.

Jerry made a promise to himself that he would work on writing jokes each day, and he didn’t expect the jokes to be the best jokes, but he wanted to train himself to be always working on jokes each day so he can over time get better and better at writing them. Many days he would come up with only low quality jokes that wouldn’t make it into any routines, but through this constant writing he was able to slowly begin building up his ability to consistently make high hitting jokes.

And this is something that should be adapted by everyone to work on their specific goals. If your goal is to get healthier than you should exercise each day even if it’s just a 10 minute walk. If your goal is to learn an instrument you should play/work on at least one song. Doing this will not only guarantee you are making progress each day, but it will also build the skill of always showing up and working towards your goals even when it’s something you really don’t want to do that day. This also is something that builds the importance of your goal in your head. Many people may say they couldn’t work towards a goal because they lack time, but everyone can spend 5 minutes before/after bed to working on their goal even if that’s the only time they have. Doing this will make the goal a priority and also a habit and when you can make your goal a habit you will be progressing much faster than you would if you only worked on it “when you can.”

Ever since I learned about the Seinfeld method I have lived by it, even to the point of my twitter bio saying “Don’t break the chain, Show up and win the day.” Not everyday I spend as much time on my goals as I wish I could, but I always make sure to spend a portion of my early morning, and my late night working on my goals despite what comes at me in the evening. This has caused my life to drastically change, I have lost a lot of weight, gained a lot of muscle, written many blog posts, made content on multiple formats, change my career path, and this is only the beginning.

I also recommend you have a way to track “the chain” such as a calendar. If you mark on a calendar every day you work on your goals you will have a visual representation of your progress of turning this into a daily habit and once you get it going you won’t want it to stop causing you to continue the chain easily.

Just remember everything worthwhile will be hard and takes time but if you don’t invest the time needed and push through the tough times then you won’t ever give yourself the chance to accomplish those goals. I believe in you even if you don’t believe in yourself yet, keep pushing and never give up.

Thank you so much for reading today’s article! I hope this was able to bring you true value and get you 1% closer to your goals each and every day! If you enjoyed please consider following my Instagram @MichaelFladungFitness!

  1. It helps to keep track of the progress using a journal. It’s hard for me to see the progress I’ve made unless I’m able to look back at my daily lists. Idk why making daily lists work, but they do 🙂
